CodeGuard Service Interruption – July 2, 2012 2:28 PM EST Update

Twitter Facebook

CodeGuard service is now fully restored.  Users can log into accounts, view backups, changes between backups, and restore files or entire sites.

New users from Friday. For users who created accounts between 9AM EST on Friday, June 29th and 8:33PM EST on Friday, June 29th, unfortunately, you will need to recreate your accounts.  We will be sending emails with special instructions shortly.

Legacy users. For our users who created accounts prior to Friday, June 29th, we did not perform site monitoring and backup (if needed) on Saturday or Sunday. When you log into your accounts, you won’t see any record of activity for Saturday or Sunday.  All websites are queued for monitoring and backup (if needed) currently, and we are quickly working through the queue.  We anticipate that almost all of the sites that need backups will be completed by 12AM EST tonight.

What’s next?
We still think that Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically, are the right choices for us.  There are pros and cons to almost any business resource decisions, and a con of choosing AWS is that when it’s going good, it’s going great,  meaning that it seems easy to be lulled into a false sense of security.  Our team has been furiously rolling out new features, improving the core application, integrating with our partners, and figuring out how to handle ever-growing demand and new user and website growth.  It is my fault that we have not prioritized making our application fault tolerant.  Numerous options exist and we will be making changes soon.  Once we do, we will update you.
